Deep Tissue Massage uses strong focused strokes, which move across the muscle fibers. It is aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, known as connective tissue. It is great for athletes or anyone with chronic muscle tightness. Deep Tissue Massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is usually more focused as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots, also known as "adhesions." Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation.
